About five minutes after I had left the OR after the weighing-table
shot, they brought Brian out so I could hold him and bond with him.
I'm not sure I can describe in English how incredible that time was.
I only wish Eileen had been awake for it.
Originally, they were going to try to do the C-section using the
epidural, but it got "spotty", meaning there were places that weren't
getting properly anesthetised. Obviously, for a surgical procedure
like this, you need 100% coverage, so when they determined that wasn't
happening, they decided to use general anesthesia, at which point I
was asked to leave the OR. I even promised to stay in the corner with
my hands to myself and my mouth shut, but to no avail.
It wasn't so bad, though, because I was able to watch the goings-on
through the window you see in the photo. And, because the person
whose back you see was kind enough to inadvertantly lean to the right
at just the right time, I got to see the baby being lifted out.
At the time this shot was taken, they were almost finished with
Eileen, but I have to admit to being a little preoccupied...
