On the Weighing Table

Brian was delivered by C-section. This photo was taken when he was less than two minutes old, as they weighed him right there in the operating room, just after cleaning him up. Because Eileen had general anesthesia, I wasn't even supposed to be in there at the time, but our extremely cool labor and delivery nurse snuck me in to take this shot.

You can sort of see the molding at the top of his head. He and Eileen did all they could to get him out the normal way, but the shape of the molding indicates how impossible that really was. :( Even the aforementioned nurse, whose mother is a midwife and who will not let any of her charges into the OR until it's absolutely the last resort, agreed that the C-section was necessary.
